Describe what you see and who will read the report. We phone back to set a time and say what the write-up will cover.
What the Visit and Report Cover
We check the parts that wear: the door gasket with a paper test at several points, the firebrick, the baffle, the glass and the stovepipe up to the ceiling. Clearances to walls and combustibles are measured and compared with the stove's label, or with the general code figures where there is no label. Each item is photographed and repairs are quoted in writing.
How We Check a Wood Stove
A wood stove wears in predictable places. The door gasket flattens and stops sealing, which lets in extra air and makes the fire hard to control. Firebricks crack from heat and from logs dropped in hard. The baffle above the fire warps or burns through. The glass gets etched or cracked. The stovepipe rusts, separates at the joints or sits too close to the wall. We check each of these and photograph it. For the gasket we do a paper test: close the door on a strip of paper at several points around the frame and see if it pulls out easily. Results go on the sheet by position.
We also measure the stove's clearance to the walls behind and beside it, and the stovepipe's clearance to combustibles, and compare them with the stove's label, since those numbers vary by model and by whether a heat shield is fitted. Older stoves without labels are held to the more general clearances in the code, which are larger. If a clearance is short, the report says how short and what would correct it, such as a listed heat shield or moving the stove.
Repairs, Parts and the Updated Sheet
Gaskets, firebrick and glass are the most common repairs and are often done in one visit with parts matched to the stove's make. Baffles and catalytic combustors are model-specific and sometimes need ordering. Each repair is quoted in writing from the inspection findings, and the sheet is updated with photos when the work is done.
A wood stove also needs its flue swept, since a tight-burning stove can build creosote quickly in the pipe and chimney above it. If the stove has not been swept in the last season, the sheet recommends a chimney sweep from $215 alongside the repair. Older stoves made before modern emission standards burn less cleanly, and where that is the case we say so on the sheet, without pressure, so you have the information if you are deciding whether to repair or replace.

Wood Stove Repair on Our City Routes
Each city page adds the local house types and weather that show up in our reports there.
CA
Wood Stove Repair in Burbank
Many Burbank houses still have the fireplace they were built with, and a report on one of them is often the first anyone has written. We start with the basics, liner type, damper condition and cap, and write each finding so a first-time owner can follow it without a glossary.

Wood Stove Repair in Sherman Oaks
Sherman Oaks reports split cleanly in two. Houses on the flats tend to show masonry wear and older dampers, while the hillside homes often have factory-built fireplaces behind stone faces, and the report has to name the make and model before any repair can be priced.

Wood Stove Repair in Studio City
A lot of our Studio City work arrives with a home sale attached, so the Level 2 report has to be clear enough for a buyer, a seller and two agents to read on a phone. Older homes on the flats often carry chimneys patched after 1994, and the camera shows whether those patches still hold.

Wood Stove Repair in Encino
Encino homes often have more than one fireplace on separate flues, so a single report covers several systems. We number each fireplace and flue at the top of the report and keep its photos and ratings together, which makes it easy to approve work on one without mixing it up with another.

Wood Stove Repair in Woodland Hills
Our Woodland Hills reports keep returning to the same three findings: clay tile liners with joints opened by the 1994 Northridge earthquake, crowns cracked on the hillside homes that face the sun, and rusted cap mesh. Each one gets a photo, a location and a plain rating, so you can see where your house sits against that pattern.

Wood Stove Repair in Canoga Park
Canoga Park houses are mostly single-story, which lets us reach the chimney from the roof on nearly every visit and photograph the crown and cap directly. Reports here often find original dampers rusted in place and clay tile liners that have never been camera-checked.

Chimney Sweep
Brushed, vacuumed and photographed before and after, so the condition sheet shows what came out of your flue and what is left.
Learn More →Chimney Inspection
Scope stated on page one, then every finding photographed and rated, so anyone reading the report later knows what was checked.
Learn More →Chimney Repair
Each quote line matches a numbered inspection finding, so you approve repairs one at a time with the photo in front of you.
Learn More →Fireplace Inspection
Masonry or factory-built is named first, then firebox, damper, smoke chamber, hearth and mantel clearance are measured and photographed.
Learn More →Fireplace Repair
Repairs priced from the photos in your report, with listed parts for factory-built units and refractory mortar for masonry fireboxes.
Learn More →Chimney Level 2 Inspection
Video of the full flue run, stills tagged by height, and a one-page summary an agent can open on a phone.
Learn More →Chimney Cap Installation
Measured to the flue tile, fitted with spark arrestor mesh, then photographed from the roof so the fit and fasteners are on record.
Learn More →Chimney Flashing Repair
Traced from the attic and the roof first, so the report names the real source of the leak before any flashing is pulled.
Learn More →Chimney Masonry Repair
Mortar loss gauged on each face of the stack, earthquake cracks mapped apart from weather wear, and a written repointing plan.
Learn More →Chimney Rebuilds
Recommended only when photos show failed masonry, then scoped in a separate assessment with lean measurements and a sketch.
Learn More →Fireplace Cleaning
Ash, glass film and doors cleaned, plus photos of the freshly cleaned firebox walls and damper, when cracks are easiest to see.
Learn More →Gas Fireplace Cleaning
Glass film, burner ports, logs, pilot and outdoor vent cap serviced, with a carbon monoxide reading written on the sheet.
Learn More →Gas Fireplace Repair
Meter readings for the thermocouple, thermopile, valve and switch go on the sheet, so the failed part is shown before it is replaced.
Learn More →Fireplace Remodel
Inspection comes first, so the remodel scope lists clearances, repairs hidden behind the old face, and the new materials line by line.
Learn More →Fireplace Inserts
Firebox measured front and back, flue inspected for a liner, then an insert chosen that fits both, with install photos kept on file.
Learn More →Pellet Stove Repair
Translated error codes, tested motors and switches, a cleaned vent, and a service sheet naming the failed part.

Firebox and flue checked first, then a vented set sized to the box and the room, with the clamp and valve photographed at install.
